Super Simple Applesauce in Instant Pot

Some things are worth the extra time and effort because they are just better homemade.  Some things aren’t.  In this case you don’t have to figure it out because applesauce in the Instant Pot is VERY easy and VERY fast!  Which is a good thing, because our two apple trees are LOADED!  Speaking of which, our two pear trees are insanely loaded this year so I would REALLY appreciate it if you would send me your favorite pear recipes ASAP!

We don’t spray or tree our trees in any way, which makes for some ugly fruit, but it is very tasty even so!  Both of our trees are Red Delicious.  This is our first picking this year and as you can see, they aren’t as picture-perfect as the ones you get at the store but they don’t have any bugs or anything so they are fine to just pick and eat.


And now for my secret weapon for all things apple–I have owned this apple peeler/corer/slicer from Pampered Chef for at least 20 years.   It is the BOMB when it comes to processing apples quickly and painlessly!  It’s a little “peely” here because I forgot to take a picture until after I had sliced the apples–oops!


(see my photo bomber?  He’s hoping I drop some apple slices…  Within a few minutes I went from this—-to—-that!

I added one cup of water to these apple slices and sprinkled them with a teaspoon of cinnamon.

I gave it all a quick stir, put the lid on and made sure that it was on SEALING and then selected MANUAL and used the +/- buttons to choose 8 minutes.  Then I walked away and went and played with my photo-bomber.


After the cycle ended, I let the pressure release naturally.  When I came back and opened it up, I got out my potato masher  and smooshed the apples.  If you like a sweeter applesauce, you can sprinkle in some brown sugar.  My apples were pretty sweet, so it wasn’t needed.  That’s it!  Simple as that!


Super Simple Applesauce in Instant Pot

3-4 cups of cored, peeled and sliced apples (approximately 6-7 small/med apples)
1 tea. ground cinnamon (more or less to taste)
1 cup water
1 tea. lemon juice (optional)

Add slices of peeled apples to the Instant Pot and pour in water and sprinkle on cinnamon and stir together. Seal lid and move valve to SEALING. Select MANUAL and use +/- to change the time to 8 minutes. When cycle ends, let pressure release either manually or naturally and then carefully remove lid. Smash apples to desired consistency. Add brown sugar to desired sweetness if necessary. Recipe can be scaled to any size pot as long as you keep level below the fill line. No need to change timing or increase water.

VARIATION (not pictured): If you like a little more zing in your applesauce, try adding 1 Tbl of Red Hot Candies instead of ground cinnamon before the pressure cycle! Adds a lovely pink color and a bit of zippy zing! Can adjust amount to taste.

    Love how easy this is! I don’t have a fancy Pampered Chef Apple corer, so I just leave the skins on and quarter my apples. After they cook, we use a food mill to remove the skins and seeds. My kids love to help stir the mill.

    I have a Pampered Chef Apple corer too. I wouldn’t want to peel apples any other way. BIG time saver.

    Mom made pear pie that was so delicious! We had one pear tree that produced tons of pears. She made it like she made apple pie–lots of butter and cinnamon. When she sliced the pears, she tried not to get too deep to avoid the gritty texture. We all loved it!
